Checklist

Carrying an urn to the Philippines

If a relative carries the urn, these points help. We are happy to prepare the document folder.

  1. 01

    Mortuary Certificate first

Even an urn in hand luggage needs the certificate from the Philippine mission.

  2. 02

    Ask the airline first

Not every airline allows urns in the cabin – check the connecting flight too.

  3. 03

    X-ray-friendly urn

Wood, cardboard or plastic. Metal or stone can prevent the security check.

  4. 04

    Keep it sealed

The urn must not be opened at security.

  5. 05

    Original documents

Death certificate, cremation certificate and Mortuary Certificate at hand.

  6. 06

    Allow extra time

Arrive earlier for security and the connection.

Process

How a repatriation to the Philippines works

  1. First call

We clarify coffin or urn, the destination in the Philippines and who receives the deceased. You then get a fixed written price.

  2. Documents in Germany

We obtain the death certificate, medical certificates, translations and – for a coffin – the corpse transit permit and embalming certificate.

  3. Consular Mortuary Certificate

We file everything with the Philippine Embassy or Consulate General. The flight is only booked once the certificate has been issued.

  4. Flight and handover

Coffin or urn travel as air freight, usually with a connection. At the airport your family or a local funeral home takes over – we keep you informed until then.

Good to know

No entry without a Mortuary Certificate

Consular Mortuary Certificate: Without this certificate from the Philippine mission, deceased persons and urns may not be brought into the Philippines. The Consulate General in Frankfurt covers Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Thuringia; the Embassy in Berlin covers the other states. According to the consulate the fee is currently €25.

Important: only confirm the flight once the certificate has been issued. We take care of this for you.

FAQ

Questions about repatriation to the Philippines

Your question is not listed? Call us or message us on WhatsApp.

What is the Consular Mortuary Certificate?

A certificate from the Philippine Embassy or Consulate General without which deceased persons or urns may not enter the Philippines. It is only issued when all documents are complete.

Which mission is responsible?

The Consulate General in Frankfurt for Bavaria, Baden-Württemberg, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate, Saarland and Thuringia; the Embassy in Berlin for all other German states.

How long does a repatriation to the Philippines take?

It depends on how quickly the registry office, health office and consulate issue the documents, and on flight connections. After the first call we give you a realistic schedule.

Are there direct flights to Manila?

Repatriations usually travel with a connection, for example via a hub in the Gulf or in Asia. We choose a connection approved for carrying human remains.

Can I carry the urn myself?

Often yes, in hand luggage. This also requires the Consular Mortuary Certificate, plus your flight details and passport. Whether the urn is released to relatives in Germany depends on the German state. We check this in advance.

Do you also bring deceased persons from the Philippines to Germany?

Yes. We coordinate with a local funeral home, arrange documents and flight and take over in Germany until the burial.

Does the consultation cost anything?

No. Advice, checking the requirements and the written quote are free and without obligation.

Which languages do you speak?

English and German.

Are you a funeral home?

We handle repatriations to the Philippines for funeral homes – with a fixed contact and, if you wish, under your name towards the family.
